Modelling Retirement Planning – Step 8
So this week we move to Step 8 and with only two more steps to follow we are nearing the end of what I hope you are finding a valuable resource either for now or at some point in the future. The image below provides an ideal introduction to this weeks step – Coffee Mornings.
As we can see from the above illustration, taken I am reliably informed from an original Paleolithic painting which is over 40,000 years old and can be found in the Franco-Cantabrian region of Western Europe, women have been talking for a very long time. In truth some never stop and it is this weakness that Step 8 aims to exploit to the modeller’s advantage.
Quite simply always encourage the wife to meet up with family and friends at every opportunity. Promote as much as possible the idea of Coffee Mornings. It really doesn’t matter whether these take place in or away from your home but the latter will add travel time which is clearly a bonus. Once you get a gaggle (collective noun?) of women together they will never stop but you can. You can stop whatever you were doing and simply start modelling or painting instead. Why should you work when they are not?
By my reckoning you should aim for two Coffee Mornings a week which potentially will give you anywhere between 2 and 16 hours of hobby time. Happy days!

Having recently been to the cinema (see below) I saw a trailer for Documentary/Movie about Motown. It inspired me to dig out a few classics and I decided there was nowhere better to start than here.

This week TIM has been watching …
Once Upon a Time In Hollywood starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Brad Pitt and the extremely hot Margot Robbie.
A midweek trip to the cinema with my son who was on a weeks holiday to see the 9th Tarantino movie. Probably not everyone’s cup of tea but we loved it and the 2 hours and 40 minutes flew by. Hopefully the DVD will be out for Christmas, my 93 year old father and 88 year old mother will enjoy it, they love a happy ending!

The Imperfect Modeller 
Nice model Dave but I feel you made the right choice with the two other girls . The coffee morning is a really good idea ,it works well at my work , I’m not sure if you know it but mine is an all women affair and when they have their morning group chat I just drift of and work quitetly on my own such bliss !

Haha, yes working with women is fun. A lot of my working life was managing and working for women and in all seriousness I did enjoy it. In those days you could play the role of the cheeky chappy without offending anyone but I would hate to be working under today’s rules.

Im lucky Dave they are mostly my age so I can still have fun with them ,but as you say I don’t think I could fit in to a modern day mob .As You no I’m thinking of chucking it in but the fun keeps me from doing so ,the boss and owner has eight years on me so I’ll be hanging around a bit longer .

I clicked like but then was sidetracked by the bleedin kids! I loooove Marvin Gaye so I’ll check out the doco. I enjoyed Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, especially the last half hour. Brilliant! However it did drag a bit and I wish there was more of Margot. The mini is cool man. Have you seen zombieland? The mini is a play on one of the characters.

Yes I have seen Zombieland but hadn’t made the connection. When we went to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood they showed a trailer for Zombieland 2 – Zombieland Double Tap, looked fun.

Yeah it does look alright but, like a lot of sequels, I worry it will be pretty much the same thing just older hehe.

Didn’t spot the Zombicide reference there. I guess I’ll have to rewatch it before I see the second one, and keep the mini in mind during the watch. 🙂

Nice mini Dave! But (and this may elicit a storm of protest) I haven’t seen that movie and (worse) I’m not a Motown sort of person! Time to take cover – I’ll just duck into this coffee morning! 🙂

Another great mini, sadly I am 11 years senior to my good lady, so help me Guru that one will not work, however as she is an archaeologist then she keeps nicking off to look at lumps and bumps as well as having to go to conferences so there is still hope.

Sounds ideal mate. While you are retired she will still be working. In the meanwhile tell her there has been a major earthworks discovered somewhere far away, she will be off like a flash and you get to do modelling! 😉

I’m trying to picture my partner at a coffee morning but even an imagination as vivid as mine has its limits 😅 Luckily she’s very encouraging of my hobby (possibly because it keeps me out of her hair) so I’ll not need to try to orchestrate that!
Nice work on Dakota, think she would have worked well fighting the rats but the pair you went for were a better choice.

You may well be right there – it’s a good thing I have your wisdom to fall back on 🙂 Plus, at the best estimate, it’s going to take every waking hour between now and retirement to paint up my backlog of miniatures anyway! Which brings me to my next question, as this is more likely to affect me in the next few years and I understand it’s also an area in which you also have experience – how does one keep painting when one has children?

I would encourage breast feeding for as long as possible as clealry this gives you an out. Follow that by working late so the kids are in bed before you get home. This will leave you less tired so you still have some energy to paint. 🤗

Another good looking model here mate. I was thinking something more Cyberpunk/Aeon Flux/Kate Beckinsale in Underworld than Zombieland, but there you go…
My main problem is getting Marouda to paint more often, so I can have an understudy I can train up to do all the boring crappy jobs like basecoating and washing models and maybe drybrushing scenery. Contrast Paints ahoy! Good thing that like SWMBO, Marouda doesn’t read this blog… 😉

More retirement wisdom, appreciated. I’m on the fence still with my age just getting in the way I think. The wife is still working but methinks that won’t be forever. Until then, mmmm, food for thought!
