This week we return to my Dad’s Army civilian figures. Compared to the uniformed set these present a much greater painting challenge with an opportunity to apply a significant amount of freehand. This time around we have Charles Godfrey and Jack Jones.
Not a great deal to add that hasn’t been said previously except that these days I am using less and less oil paints. Why? Simply because I have been trying to improve my blending work with acrylics and am reaching a point where I am happier with it. So, is that the end of oils? Definitely not.

Great stuff once again. The way you have painted them let’s me know who Godfrey is, to me Jonsey is self evident in the sculpt, but Godfrey isn’t as obvious. Great freehand on the stripes again.

Thanks mate. More stripes to do on the others but hopefully it will get easier with practice!

I agree, very nice, and I like the freehand on the clothing as well. As for blending with acrylics do you make much use of drying retarders for that?

I didn’t on these Ann but I recently discovered a product called Flow Aid which I aim to use and believe it to be ideal for this sort of thing. In due course I will put a post up saying what I think of it once I have tried it out.

I’d be curious to read what your experiences are with Flow Aid when you use it. 🙂

Great stuff again, you’ve really captured Godfrey’s worried expression. Well done on Jones’ striped apron too – a real job for steady hands there.

Thanks mate. I would like to say they were done perfectly at the first time of asking but alas…

Great work and freehand detailing on ths very characterful pair. I’m sure the halberd and spear will keep the Boche at bay!

I reckon it’s because they remind you of the show and some of the classic lines. It was great and still is given the repeats.
