TIM’s Miniatures & Musings (No: 64)

Welcome to this weeks Miniatures & Musings!

This weeks figure is from Hasslefree and goes by the name of “Joanne”.  Clearly she is a woman with an attitude but if I found myself in trouble I would prefer her on my side.  I went with a Union Jack freehand flag on her T-Shirt and an Anarchy symbol on the back of her waistcoat just to add some more interest.

Interesting Site?

At some point in the distant past I considered doing a model tank.  I think at the time I was painting some figures based on the film Kelly’s Heroes and fancied the idea of a Sherman tank to accompany the figure of Oddball, the charachter played by Donald Sutherland.  In searching for a suitable manufacturer of model tanks I came across the site Blitzkrieg Miniatures.

Whilst the figures got finished I never did get around to purchasing the tank.  Maybe one day I will but with so much in my to do pile and so many other things on my “essential, must have, purchase now before they all get sold out, shrewd investment for the future list” I can’t see that being any time soon.

Happy Birthday

Just over a week ago it was my birthday, my third time of being 21 and my first in a Covid-19 woŕld.  Under normal circumstances I would have been taken out for a meal and a few drinks.  Presents typically would comprise of some items of clothing, a DVD or two and something pointless that I just don’t need in this world or the next.

This year though things were different.  Wisely putting health and safety first I was the recipient of nothing but a few cards and some money and offered the line “We didn’t think it was safe to go out to eat and we didn’t know what to buy you as you have everything already don’t you?”.

Actually as it happens I don’t have everything I want but as luck would have it I’ve got this bloody great “essential, must have, purchase now before they all get sold out, shrewd investment for the future list” to spend the money on.

Happy days.

This week TIM has been listening to …

MC Hammer and “U Can’t Touch This”.  I’m not abig fan of rap music but this is one of a very few commercial tracks that I quite like.

This week TIM has been watching…

“The Cry” starring Genna Coleman.  As Genna is is the girl of my dreams I couldn’t resist watching this when I discovered it on BBC iPlayer.  Set in the UK and Australia it turned out to be an excellent 4 part series.

  1. Hey Happy Birthday, I just celebrated mine as well. Crap, I hope that doesn’t mean I’m catching up to you!

Nice looking mini. So is she a patriot or an anarchist? Maybe it depends on what side of the bed she falls out drunk from?!

  2. Love “let’s make Britain grate again!” I need to use that over here in the States, where we really do need to get our shit together and rejoin the world! Thanks for the smiles today!

Oh, and for the tank, eBay should have some good buys on scale models, and they usually go together quickly, with extremely simple paint schemes, for the Soviets and Americans anyway.

  3. Happy Birthday to you!
    You live in the zoo!
    You look like a monkey!
And you smell like one toooooo!!!

Happy birthday mate! It’s a fine time of year to be born isn’t it – mine’s next week. Remember when someone would breath all over a cake and then everyone would eat a slice? We were crazy back in 2019! Love what you’ve done with Joanne, the denim and the freehand are both just spot on.

  4. Happy Birthday for the past mate !! I normally do mine every five years and have about fifty friend over in the shed, cancelled due to our virus problem so ,Hopefully Ill be able to do it next April when I finally quit paid work! and combine it with my 66th birthday !!
Not overly excited with the figure mate but you have again painted it well, and of course base it to your fine standard.

  5. Happy 21×3 birthday afterwards!

I also love Hasslefree, I have one of their female Warrior Priests. The jeans came out really well, also love that freehand. The rusty pipe is gorgeous, did you use pigment or rust-paints for that?
I probably would be too scared to talk to her, she looks like she means business and that base seems like she’s on rough terrain!

Back then, when I was a kid, i collected tanks myself, so I find it rather intriguing that they offer a Maus-Panzer.

    Quote actually made me giggle.

  6. Happy belated birthday! A tank would make for a cool (and larger) project where you can probably learn a few new tricks. I’ve always thought that painting tanks is a different art than your typical infantry/people miniatures. I really like the punk lass! I grew up listening to punk music and I think she’d do well in the post-apocalypse. I’d gladly be in her crew because she wouldn’t take any guff from those zombies either! 🙂

    1. Thank you. A tank would be good and at some point I will get to do one. The wonderful thing about the hobby is the different techniques. A tank is different from a figure and ships and planes are all different again. So much to learn but so little time! 😊

  7. Joanna is awesome. Love the stance, the attitude and the Union Jack is very well executed. Well bloody done. I’ve never been great at Maths but Happy 84th all the same hehe. Another coincidence for us to share because I was just looking at Blitzkrieg the other week for more tanks for my Bolt Action Project. They have a lovely range and apparently their scale is better than Warlord Games. Warlord Games do a Sherman with an OddBall character/mini driving it.

  8. Cheers matey glad you like her. I’m going to recruit her to look after me! Yes, the Oddball Sherman caught my eye a couple of years back. Next year I might take another look at it and WW2 generally. Need to start and finish two projects for this year first along with the pile of lead though first.
