TIM’s Miniatures & Musings (No: 69)

Welcome to this weeks Miniatures & Musings!

Another week and another Hasslesfree miniature, this one goes by the name “Justice Sedante”.  Definately not a lady to be messed with that’s for sure.  I’m told she has a soft centre but unfortunately you have to negotiate her exterior to get there!

Dorothy’s Cobbles & Clydes Acrylic Base

In the comments of two recent posts I was asked by Deturnation how I did the cobbles on Dorothy and how I did the acrylic base on Clyde by Pat.  Both were very simple so I thought I would share the very brief details here.  Oh, and by the way, do check out their excellent blogs if you haven’t already.

I typically do cobbles one of two ways.  One method is to simply use a cobble textured roller from Green Stuff World over Milliput or a clay such as Das.  There are plenty of textured rollers available and well worth checking out.  The other method is to use plaster board.  Not sure what it is called else where in the world but basically it is the stuff used by builders for internal walls.  It is easily carved and this is what I used for the basing of Dorothy.

The acrylic base for Clyde was equally simple.  Once again Green Stuff World came up trumps.  They have square and round moulds for using with UVResin and a UVTorch.  I simply bought some 25mm square bases, added some watch parts for a steampunk looking base, poured in some of the UVResin into the mould and then hardened it off using the UVTorch.  It takes about a minute for the resin to harden and then it can be removed.

Of course the moulds and the resin can be used in a variety of ways.  so for that matter can the cobble roller.  I have used it to make walls as well as floors and the plaster board can be used to pretty much make all sorts of scenery.  All down to imagaination and crafting skills.

This week TIM has been listening to …

“Hey Jude” by the Beatles.  You may not have heard of this group but I reckon they are going to be big.

The track was sung live on the David Frost show back in 1968.  I don’t know what the TV audience was but the YouTube video has had over 250 million hits.  Not bad for a song which is over 50 years old.  I remember watching it on a black and white TV at the time (we got colour in 1970) with my brother and my mum and dad.  Some things you never forget and this was one of those moments.  Probably one of the greatest songs ever.  Of course you are entitled to your opinion but if you disagree then you you are wrong!

This week TIM has been watching

“Wild Target” starring Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt.  A quirky little film with a good cast.  Not a classic by any means but a few good laughs and worth a watch in my opnion.

If you can’t think of a word say “I forget the English word for it” that way people will think you are bilingual instead of an idiot.

  1. Firstly: Thank you TIM for the tutorial! I had my eyes on greenstuffworld for a while now, but as I love buying minis over anything else I always end up buying minis instead of paints for example haha! Need to buy from there.

I also have her, but the Fantasy version with the hat and the flintloque pistol. Nice to see her painted up. I really like the danger-stripes on the si-fi version! I love that base with all the details. You did a really good job in making her look as grim as possible!
Your wooden stands are always really nice. Are you glueing the bases onto them or only magnetizing?

Hey Jude is a true classic – even though I love how its worked into Neon Genesis Evangelions (End of Evangelion Movie)’s theme song: “Komm süsser Tod” jumbled up with a few more classics! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIscL-Bjsq4 (the part from 4min onwards roughly)

I might have watched the Wild Target once, I’m not sure anymore… I have from time to time my phase where I watch preferedly British Crime-Comedy; if that was the one about them stealing a safe or something…

Funny with the word in English, I have the same problem with German, where I rather remember the sometimes more fitting English one, or even the Japanese 😀

    1. Thank you. It is easy to get side tracked buying figures and forgetting that you need the materials to paint them, I do the same! I answerto your question I glue the bases to the little wooden plynths. As I am not a gamer they are just for show. Thanks for the link. Not sure you have to worry about languages your English is outstanding. 🙂

  2. i think i would leave her well alone, she looks mean, nice to see the black/yellow warning on the blade as it might be sharp and she dont want you to cut yourself.

  3. Justice looks awesome! I like the blade with the diagonal stripes (can’t remember the proper name of them for the life of me) and the color choices on the model make her look deadly serious to match the sculpt. I think this mini really pops against your black background as well 🙂

  4. Lovely Justice! The crispness of the painting of her coat really works. As for Mr. Potato Head, great joke. Stealing that pic. Did you know he was originally created in New England? (Rhode Island just 50 miles away).

Nice tutorial. In the US gypsum wallboard is referred to as sheet rock btw in case you ever see that term. Cheers Dave!

    1. Thanks Mark. You really are a font the
font of all knowledge – from Mr Potato Head to Sheet Rock! 🙂 I’m pretty sure I have heard the term Sheet Rock but never knew that’s what it was. Well, as they say, you learn something new every day. 👍

  5. It’s been a long and winding road and a hard days night for me but with a little help from my friends I will feel fine. It feels like I’ve been working eight days a week but I’m getting nowhere man. As you know I’m a gardener and it seems like strawberry fields forever and the amount of Norwegian Wood I’ve had to chop boggles the mind. It’s good to get back though. What I wouldn’t give to be a paperback writer. Anyway here comes the sun and I can see a blackbird squawking in a tree so I better head on down penny lane because I’ve got a ticket to ride. Let’s see if you can reply with as many Beatles songs 😉 Don’t let me down. My count was 15.

    1. “Dear Prudence”,

“Yesterday” I met “Eleanor Rigby”, “I Saw Her Standing There”, close to the “Fool On The Hill”, it was her “Birthday”. I said “Hi Honey Pie””I Wanna Be your Man”,  How about “The Two of Us” getting a “Ticket To Ride” to”Penny Lane”, passing “Blue Jay Way” and going to the ” Octopuses’s Garden” and going on the “Helter-Skelter”?  She said she couldn’t as she was meeting “Sexy Sadie”, “Julia”, “Michelle”, “Lovely Rita”  and “Polythene Pam” down “The Long and Winding Road” near “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” and then going on a “Magical Mystery Tour”,

“Oh! Darling” I said “You Can’t Do That” “You Like Me Too Much”, besides “”You Really Got A Hold Of Me”. “There’s A Place” the “Two of Us” can “Come Together”.  Please “Don’t Let Me Down”.  We can “Drive My Car” “Here, There And Everywhere”, “Across The Universe” and look for “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” and “Mr Moonlight”,

“Wait” she said, “Slow Down”.  “Tell Me Why”? “Tell Me What You See”?  I’m not a “Little Child” or a “Lady Madonna”, it’s just “All Too Much” just “Let It Be”.  I’m in love with “Another Girl”!

“Help”!  “I Should Have Known Better”.  “I’m A Loser”.  “It’s Only Love” but “It’s All Too Much”.  “You Won’t See Me” again I told her.  I’ve seen “The Inner Light” “In My Life” and though “I’m So Tired” “I’ve Got A Feeling” “I’ll Follow The Sun”.  “Happiness Is A Warm Gun” I told her.  “Good Night” I said.

“I’ll Be Back” I’m going “Nowhere Man” after all “Tomorrow Never Knows” “What Goes On”.  “When I Get Home” and “With A Little Help From My Friends” I’m gonna “Twist and Shout” after all “I Am The Walrus”!

      “The End”

      Yours,

      “Rocky Racoon”

      “PS I Love You”

      1. Haha. Ok so you lose a point for not making it specific to your actual life like I did. You also lose a point for using songs I used BUT you gain a point for playing along and then gain another 10 points for ending with “PS I love you” it left me feeling… well… lets just say… I wanna hood your hand

  6. Great figure mate and thanks for the answer to my question 🤔very clever , I have taken a liking to the resin after using it as the ocean and you will be seeing more of it in the future.🤓 I got to love when you and young Luke get going , as I said before you two would make a great comedy team !!!

      1. Its another Egyptian themed one with the same layout as this last one, I’m painting up heaps of figures at the moment and working out how to convert a Viking ship into something a bit more to that theme. Bye the way mate I have told work I’m retiring in two months, kind of sudden and no where like you advised me to some time back, but as I’ll be busy getting the house in order and packing up all the modelling stuff I’ll need six months before selling up and moving up country!!
