I thought I would surprise you, and myself for that matter, by doing a figure that wasn’t from Hasslefree. This little lady is from CP Models and goes by the name of “Mei-Lin Mayfair”. To be honest she could easily pass for a Hasslefree figure – metal, spot on 28mm scale and female. Having failed with Ann’s March challenge I’m straight in there for April!
With no rules to follow in terms of colour scheme I thought I would go for yellow, partly inspired by others who for one reason or another have gone with this colour recently. Personally I think it is the worst colour to paint with which is annoying because it is one I really like. Unfortunately yellow paint is just too translucent for one or two coats to be sufficient I find.
Doubtless there are many ways of painting with yellow but, on the occasions when I do, I use just about every yellow I have in my paint collection. Starting with the darkest I work through each colour in layers until I get to the lightest and that seems to work for me. As for the base I kept it simple as I liked the figure and didn’t want to distract from it. I used Scrim Tape to create a mesh pattern (just about visible in the last image), some broken plaster board for a little rubble and a old watch part to add a bit of metal.

Haha, no she is definitely not Hasslefree but she could easily pass for one that’s for sure. Up against others she is very like for like in scale. I did wonder if it was a commission piece or a collaboration of some sort between the two companies? 🙂

I like this but I painted her straight white in a more GITS style… Definitely makes it less cheeky that way. I never thought the Major was “sexy”, she’s too transhuman for that.

Really nice miniature Dave, I imagine she is based upon Scarlett Johansson’s character in “Ghost in the Shell”, though she isn’t yellow 😉 and has less “cheek” on show (sadly). I do like the colour however, works really well, and as you say yellow is a sod to paint!

Wonderful painting TIM, yellow paints are terrible for the most part, not wanting to swear on your blog try Games Workshop Yriel yellow, actually gives great coverage, and is a nice rich colour. another wat to paint yellow is paint the model in flesh tones, then when dry add a yellow wash, gives a great colour

Yellow is a pain, but the new GW Contrast paints are sorcery, the yellows being particularly excellent. That said, yours came out nice 😊

Thank you. I do like yellow as a colour but it can be a bugger. Fortunately a few comments have provided some yellow paint colour tip options so more yellow could well be on the cards in future. 🙂

Ooh, she’ll catch her death going out dressed like that! Very nice work mate, yellow is a really tricky colour to work with but that lemony tone you’ve pulled off there is top notch.

Cheers mate and yes you do have to question her clothing. As a responsible parent I’m away telling my daughter if she is going out armed to the teeth and hell bent on killing someone to wear a warm vest. Will she listen! 😉

My first thought was that this has to be a Hasslefree figure: female, skin on show, tight clothes, two weapons, arse sticking out, so I was surprised it isn’t! She looks great in those colours and I love her skin tones and hair. Excellent job on the yellow paint, a colour I really struggle with.

Fantastic Davey. She’s a really nice sculpt. Yeah I struggle with Yellow but I’m a glutton for punishment because my next project, after CoffinWood is going to be FULL of yellow. The base is really nice too. Subtle but affective

I’ve not heard of CP Models but they do seem like a subsidiary of Hasslefree to me as well with cheeky sculpts like this 😉 I feel the same as you when it comes to painting yellow. I applaud you for tackling the color head-on. I should really think about doing the same. If you see some more futuristic/cyberpunk sculpts like this, I’d love to see you tackle them!
