Welcome to this weeks Miniatures & Musings!
—000—
This weeks miniature isn’t. Well it is but it’s actually four figures with an added bonus. This week I managed to churn out four Footsore Baron’s War Levy’s and, as well as taking a couple of photo’s of each, I also managed a group shot of the four of them. In fairness these figures were, in contrast to just about everything else I’ve done to date on this project, quick and easy.
So what of the added bonus? Well, not quite what I had intended but conscious of the fact that I needed to do something, I took a group shot of the seven mounted knights I have completed and another one of the foot knights and sergeants too. I’ve still to work out any form of base that works for me and of course I haven’t included a photo yet of the spearmen, archers, crossbowmen and levy’s. Hopefully this is something I will eventually put right but for now it provides an indication of the progress I have made to date on part of the project.

Give Me Five
I never appreciated just how big the “Biopic” film category was. As far as genre’s go this one is one of my favorites, I do like a good true story (even a Hollywood interpreted one). This time around I’ve placed no parameters on the genre but as and when I revisit it I will look to break the category down. In the meanwhile five films, in no particular order, which I have watched more than once and will doubtless watch again.
- Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
- Schindler’s List (1993)
- The Social Network (2010)
- Philomena (2013)
- Into the Wild (2007)

This week TIM has been listening to …
“Fake I.D.” by Big and Rich Featuring Gretchen Wilson. I have to say I enjoyed the Footloose remake and this particular track, not least of all because it featured Julianne Hough, a very hot young lady who is on my hit list of potential wife replacements.

This week TIM has been watching …
“The Green Book” starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, neither of whom I’d ever heard of before. The film won Best Picture at the 2018 Oscars although I confess to knowing little if anything about it until I watched it. Turned out to be a good film and one which was based on a true story. Well worth a watch if you haven’t seen it already I’d say.

To err is human but to blame it on someone else shows management potential.

TIM
Grouped en-masse they look awesome and a very nice force you have.
As for the motley group of four peasant levies, they can fill a hole in the line and offer up a suitable target for the knights to enjoy a little ride int he country. hehe
Of course as always, these new additions look great. But the group shots show how many you have actually completed. Well done.

Thanks Anthony, it surprised me just how many I had now done. Still more to do though. 🙂

Thanks Alex. The army is certainly coming along and I was quite surprised by how many I had now done. More to do though! 🙂

Great work on the Levy’s TIM, the colours are wonderfully muted as fitting for these poor fellows.
As for biopic films, or loosely based on true stories, I would include ” The Blind Side”, “Radio”, “Coach Carter”, ” Bohemian Rhapsody” , and “The Replacements”. A lot of these are sport based and not entirely accurate, but still a good watch.

Thanks Dave and also for the film list. Once again you have given me some to check out and try to watch as Radio and The Replacements are both new to me. 🙂

As an added bonus, the blind side stars my alternative wife, Sandra. I even managed to fit her into my Grooms speech 😉

Oh wow fantastic to see the group shots man. They look great! I’ve saved the pix (hope that’s ok) so I can keep looking at them hehe. Too five: 1. Braveheart. 2. Glory. 3. Donnie Brasco 4. Public enemy. 5. The elephant man.

Haha, of course it’s OK to save the pics, you can even print them if you like! 😉 Nice film list although I need to check out Donnie Brasco, not sure if the title rings a bell or not (it’s and age thing). 🙂

Those levies look the business, there’s a real satisfaction to knocking through a whole load of rank and file isn’t there? The groups of knights look fantastic as well, this army is really going to look magnificent!

Thanks Wudu old chap. You are right, it is satisfying to knock out several quite quickly, makes a nice dent in the pile but they are a little boring to paint so in and out quickly, like a painting ninja! 😉 As for the army it’s coming along but I’m well behind on the mounted Knights.

Nice peasants! a real “merry men” look to them too, and wonderful group shots, if Footsore had any sense they would but that on the web-site!
That lady could help me find my dog anyday!! (it would almost be worth losing her for that, just kidding I love the dog too much for that just)) 😉.
Cant really think of five bioptic pic’s I like, but I would recommend “Lovelace” the story of Linda, I enjoyed that.
As for the young “wife” replacement, I see the attraction but can she make cake? that’s the real question these days.😁
Cheers Roger.

I think you’ve got your priorities right Roger! 🙂 Cake’s always worth having – whoever said “you can’t have your cake and eat it” is just missing the point!

Love your film choice Roger I must say. Unless something comes up to night I might try and watch it! 😉

Thank you. It’s getting there but plenty still to do, mostly mounted knights which will take quite a while to do.

Its great to see more progress but the group shots are even more exciting. That is a great looking army you’ve been putting together! I haven’t seen Green Book but I’m surprised you haven’t heard of Viggo Mortenson. He was Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings! If you don’t mind some graphic violence, I’d recommend Eastern Promises. Its set on your fair island and deals with the Russian mafia. Viggo shows his range as an actor in that one too.

Glad you like the group shots. Haven’t heard of Eastern Promises but will check it out as it sounds like another one for my watch list. 🙂

I’m not sure if i could have lasted two hours with that helpful young lass!!
