This week, like the previous one, proved to be another good one. I’d hoped to get the diorama fully finished this week but I still have a few minor bits to do, specifically a couple of banners and lances for four of the knights.
What I did achieve though was getting the rest of the surrounding Barn area complete. The pigs and rats I’d painted a while ago along with the remaining figure. Some of the barrels I had done too so I was left with only a few bits to paint and the ground work to do.
The ground work was straight forward and easily accessible which was key. The only minor difficulty was getting the ground work to blend seemlessly to the areas of ground I had previously done.
A little bit of fence work and some more tools suitably positioned and the diorama is now just about complete. That said you will have to wait until the big reveal next week. In the meantime images of the remaining Barn ground works appear in the photo’s below.

Woah those are such nice details. It looks really organic, including small things as leaves. I might be tempted to state, that the soil is what makes this so great and it looks like a fair bit of thinking went to it (at least it looks like it!). I really like it.
Those pigs are really cute!
And vermin need to be killed! I should you sent my Vermin Killer, he really hates dem rats. (Really gotta finish him, when I figure out, where I have stored him (lol).

Thank you. Personally I think when it comes to dioramas it’s the detail which breaths life into the piece. 🙂

Really nice work and the final pictures are eagerly anticipated! At the same time though, take your time finishing it off and make sure you’re happy with everything. I do think there is a good possibility that this is your best diorama yet but we’ll just have to wait and see what the final results are like first 🙂

So cool mate and so realistic. The timber planks are incredible. I’m very, very excited to see it all in its entirety. Even showed my daughter who said “very cool”. That’s a lot coming from her as she’s 14 haha.

Very cool indeed IRO, I didn’t know 14 year olds could even speak! 😉

Take away the word “like” and they really struggle to form sentences but for the most part I can understand her

Looking awesome so far. I’m guessing it was the camera angles. but I got an eerie feeling about the mini in this shot. Maybe it was the slow reveal, the sharp axe, the dirty hooded figure that we never see the face of…but I half expected some drops of blood or other remains of a body. I must be watching too many crime shows!!

Haha, yes you’re watching too many crime shows. Sorry to say nothing like that going on in this diorama. 🙂

That’s a relief, haha! The bits look great. The pigs, the rats, the cart. All looking very nice and real.

Well I’m back , had to mow the block as it the first rain free day we have had! A relative smorgasbord of detail mate, and those rats are Brill !

I don’t imagine you getting much rain in Aus so interesting to learn you have the same problem getting out to cut grass as we do! As for anything medieval you’ve got to have rats! 🙂

We haven’t had seen this much rain for years , it’s lucky we left the rats 🐀 In Melbourne otherwise they would be swarming out of the burrows to escape the rain 😳

That is amazing detail. I’m pretty sure that they have an annual competition for people painting their buildings and often entries take the form of dioramas. Not even having seen the finished thing, you should definitely submit this (if I’m not making it up 😂)

Thank you, glad you like it. Tabletop World do hold an annual competition and I entered my diorama “The Wizard’s Tower” a couple of years ago. I didn’t win but they liked it enough to offer me a 30% discount on buying more of their stuff. What you are seeing in this diorama are the buildings I bought. Hopefully they’ll offer me a discount again next time around. 🤗
