This week’s figure is from Footsore Miniatures and goes by the name of “Odin The Allfather”. I chose him as my free figure when I spent over £35.00 on a bundle of knights. The online images for the figure show Odin in a snow setting and as I liked that very much I decided to do the same. Unfortunately the two black crows sitting on his shoulders don’t stand out against the black background but the alternative of a white background would probably not have shown the snow!

Colour Wheel App
In a recent exchange of comments between myself and Wudugast an interesting point was raised, specifically choosing colour schemes for your next gang or army. Clearly this is not a problem when dealing with historical pieces but when your interest lies in the worlds of fantasy and science fiction and you have already built numerous armies then coming up with something new can be a challenge.
Now I am sure you are all aware of colour wheels and how to use them. I have a basic knowledge but certainly don’t claim to be an expert my any means. However, in an effort to learn more about colours and what best goes with what I found an App titled “Color Harmonizer”. Not only does it give you the appropriate complementary and split complimentary colours but it also gives you the best colour tones for upto four (Square), five and six colour tones too.
Is the App any good? I have no idea just yet as I am currently engulfed in historical pieces just now but I will have a proper look futher down the line. In the meanwhile though I thought I would share this discovery in the hope that it might be of some use. If anyone does elect to download the App I would be interested to know what you think.

WordPress Editor
The new WordPress editor hasn’t hit me yet. My home screen says I can start using it but as yet I haven’t. From what I gather I will be forced to use it in due course. Not sure when that will be but I guess it wont be long. It is probably an age thing, I don’t take kindly to change these days compared to the younger me.
I think what makes it worse is I don’t like change for the sake of change, I rather like the old adage “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” and as far as I am concerned the current editor works just fine. I just know that once the switch is made it is going to result in a lot of swearing and I really could do without the aggrevation.

I’m hoping to upgrade my iPad with the logic that newer will be simpler! I think it’s really a plot by my son to get his hands on an iPad pro to become a gaming YouTube star!

Thank you. Good luck with the tech upgrade even if your son is playing a crafty one on you. Technology is not my strong point and heaven knows how I will cope when the kids eventually move out!

Very nice mate, Odin looks sharp! It’s a shame that (presumably), Huginn and Muninn are a little hard to make out against the black background

Thanks Alex. To be honest the photo’s are poor but I tried several times and these were the best of the bunch. There must be a way round it, some way of compensating on the exposure but buggered if I know how. One option might be to experiment with a background colur other than black or white. With hindsight a colur like red might have worked. Might try that next time and see.

Nice mini mate. Try using a light positioned above the mini but out of shot to show the black birds, as well as your normal light. I hear you on “change”. I don’t like it when I have to update the software on my phone. It never seems to improve anything and was working fine the way it was. I haven’t tried the new editor yet. Just give me a pencil and paper and I’m happy. The Sid Vicious version is great. He was ahead of his time that kid.

Nice work on old Glad-of-War there, the snow effect has worked really well. You’re right that Huginn and Muninn are a little hard to make out on the black but I reckon you can see them well enough in the first picture and showing the snow has more visual impact here. Good shout on the colour wheel app, I’ll file that away in my memory for use next time I need to come up with a scheme. I’m in full agreement on the new editor, if it ain’t broke leave the damn thing alone! Mind you, some tech-guy probably got paid big bucks to mess about with it so now we all have to deal with the consequences. Loved the cowboy – I know a few bikers I’ll tell that one to straight away 😀

Odin is really great mate ,I do like the snow effect you have achieved ,never easy in my book! I have to agree with IRO in regards to Syd ,you’ve just got to love the Pistols!!!!
Now you have scared me with that new Word press stuff!! unlike you who still has a support team mine have now all flown the nest, what with young’un moving to another city to work last week.

I feel your pain Pat. Hopefully between us all we will be able to work out the new editor. I suspect some of the younger bloggers are tech savy and willing to help out some old timers. 😊

I think the new editor will be making the text into blocks – so instead of one document of paragraphs you could/would have a series of blocks that could be edited independently. I don’t see why that’s an advantage myself, but you could just have one big block and it’s not a lot different from what you’re doing now. I noticed that I have been able to stay with the classic editor- so likely you can too.
As for Odin, he looks great. I would have shot him in your lovely garden in natural light – but even here the snow and other details are quite evocative.
I would also love a color wheel app, though it might just tell me I’m a bit nuts.
And the joke was a great one Dave!

Like you I am still on the classic but from what you say perhaps the new one isn’t all that bad anyway. Fingers crossed! Glad you like Odin and with the weather slowly improving here then some outside photos might not be a bad idea.

Odin is really great work. Such an evocative piece. You’re making me think I need to revisit Footsore’s website and see what they’ve been releasing lately 🙂
That app does sound really helpful and while I feel about the same as you on color theory, it is a skill I know I can improve in and will pay off on future models.
I found the new WordPress editor to be a little counter-intuitive for about one article and then I started to get it down. It is pretty symbol heavy but you can always hover your cursor over an option to figure out what it is. If you are forced to upgrade down the road, I think you’ll adapt to it pretty quickly.
