TIM’s Miniatures & Musings (No: 144)

This Weeks Mini Is …

… not a Footsore Baron’s War knight.  Given the time of the year I wanted something seasonal, a figure which was festive and conveyed the spirit of Chistmas.

Alas I couldn’t find anything suitable so I settled for a Nazi riding a Raptor!

Not a great piece but fun to do nonetheless.

Despite everything that has been going on of late it would have been inappropriate not to have at least tried to get a post out before the festive season to wish each and everyone of you a very Merry Christmas.

Hopefully Santa will bring you and yours everything you wish for and that you and your families will have a great holiday.  Enjoy! 🤗🎄🍾

Royal Mail

A few weeks ago I placed orders for some figures.  Christmas presents to myself essentially.  Whether they arrive just in time for Christmas of course is anyone’s guess right now.  Here in blighty we seem to have just about everyone on strike or threatening to do so.

Now I’m not against strike action or anti Unions, both have there place and of course along with others I have my opinions on the merits or otherwise on each dispute.  The incredible cost of living rises are making life difficult for a great many of us, not just in the UK but globally too.

I’ve no idea what the solution is, it seems to me nobody does right now.  All I do know is the quicker the figures I’ve ordered arrive the sooner I can shut myself away in the hope that when I re-emerge it’s all been sorted.  Maybe I’ll have to place some more orders just to be on the safe side? 🤔

  1. Excellent work on the Dino riding German Dave. Hope you and the family have a wonderful Christmas, who knows maybe 2023 will be the year when everything goes right, but I wouldn’t bet on it ! LOL

  2. Merry Christmas to you too! That knight is looking a little different to the other ones you’ve posted isn’t he? Bit more lightly armoured and the heraldry isn’t as fancy as some of your others but I reckon the other participants in the Baron’s War won’t know what hit them!

Seriously, cracking work – and as you can imagine that joke about the magical unicorn matches very closely to how I’m feeling right now!

    1. I reckon that Unicorn joke may have struck a note with all of us but I think you might have to wait at least 18 years to get 5 minutes to yourself and if you have more than one child even longer than that! On the other hand you’ll need time to paint to retain whatever sanity you still have! Try to use any time off over this festive period to see what can give and if you come up with anything please let us know as the rest of us have so far failed! 🤣🤣 Have a wonderful first family Christmas. 🙂

  3. Lovely figures mate, who doesn’t love a Nazi on a big lizard!

All the best from Christmas and the new year mate.

At this time of year I think it’s only right to check in on any old or infirm neighbours you have, only yesterday I went round to the eighty year old lady who lives next door to me to ask if she wanted anything from the shops? It turned out she did, so I gave her my list too so she could get them for me. Well there was no point both of us going out in the cold and wet was there! 🤣🤣🤣

    Cheers Roger. 🎅🏼🎅🏼

  4. That’s a great mini Dave! Funny as I nearly posted a demon for Christmas, but that will have to wait till next year. Is that the first Dino you’ve posted? I don’t recall seeing one. I’m surprised you didn’t go with a lovely lady riding the beast?! The magical unicorn message is all too true. My youngest seems to have bathroom radar. Ever since she was born, there have been very few times I’ve used the bathroom without some “emergency!” happening. Well, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you my friend! Here’s to 2023!

  5. I love that mini, it’s beautifully painted. Also a very interesting change of subject matter for you. Will your next project after all of the knights a retainers be a series of WW2 soldiers riding extinct animals?

    1. Glad you like it mate, it was a bit different. As for my next project that’s very much up in the air right now. Plenty of single figures to do but lacking a major bit of inspiration for something larger. Hopefully the new year will herald some fresh ideas. 🤞🙂

  6. I really like the mini you painted. Its got a lot of character and the basework is excellent too. To me, it feels like that could be Prehistoric fauna (even if you weren’t going for it).

I hope your new minis arrive soon and I know what you mean about the rising costs. As I’ve been telling my family, its been hard since the pandemic to feel good about the state of the world and its too easy to worry that we’re all headed in the wrong direction. I’m not as seasoned as you or John (I hope that is a polite way to put it!) but I’ve never seen this kind of dour outlook and it is disheartening. I’d say go order yourself some more minis to cheer yourself up! 🙂

    1. Cheers mate and the ordered figures arrived just in time. I’ll order some more in the new year I’m sure. As for the state of the world try not to worry too much. History tells us tough times are followed by good times, just need to hang in there and ride things out.🙂

  7. Great work on that model. I like the “party camo” splineter pattern pants as well! Very much a “And now for something completely different” model. Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Years, and hope your models arrived in time. – But yeah, better buy some more, just in case! 🙂

      1. I think Nazi Dino Riders qualify pretty safely as off the wall by most standards! 😉 Good to hear that the holidays were good ones – and more toys never hurts!

  8. That is certainly different mate, but as you said !! do something different I never thought I would but now I find I have IRO’s problem of flitting on to the next project before I’m done with the last!!
It’s like I cant keep up with myself , brain of a child body of an elder!!
