Welcome to this weeks Miniatures & Musings!
—000—
This weeks miniature is from Hasslefree and goes by the name of “Mystic Warrior Libby”. A rather neat little four piece figure which like all Hasslefree figures fits together with a minimum of fuss. I chose to go with a basic paint job and base and that’s about all there is to say!

Well It Made Me Laugh

Well this week I finally took the plunge and took advantage of my free upgrade, albeit for the first year only, and changed my site address to theimperfectmodeller.co.uk. Despite my apprehension following my trials and tribulations with the new wordpress editor everything so far seems all well and good. Hopefully it will continue to stay that way. If there is one thing I hate more than glue it’s technology when it goes wrong. Oh and I don’t like broccoli much either.

Give Me Five
This week I thought I would list my top five British stand up comedians. There have been some great individuals over the years so selection was way tougher than I anticipated. I could have made this a list of twenty and still left loads out. I suspect some of the names on here, perhaps all of them, will be lost on overseas readers. Opinion will be divided I’m sure but over the years these people have given me some great laughs, some still do. So, for better or worse my top five in no particular order are:
- Ricky Gervais
- Rhod Gilbert
- Rowan Atkinson
- Billy Connelly
- Dave Allen

This week TIM has been listening to …

This week TIM has been watching …
“The Invisible Man”. This was the 2020 release, not the 1933 original. Other than the title I’m not sure the two films have a lot in common. As to the film itself it was OK and worth a watch in my opinion. It made She Who Must Be Obeyed jump a couple of times and that alone made the whole thing worthwhile!

Like Libby! 🙂 But if there’s one person I can’t seem to like it’s Ricky Gervais, don’t know why! He’d no doubt say the same about me and he’d be right!

Ricky is the closest thing to marmite in the comedy world I think, you either love him or hate and there is no in between. Personally l love him but SWMBO can’t stand him. She’ll leave the room when he is on which for me is just an added bonus!

Great work on Jedi-Libby there, those grey robes work really well.

The miniature came out looking good. I particularly liked the hair and think you did a good job on the cloak too. I find for myself anyway that cloaks can be hard.

Thanks Ann glad you like the mini.

Nice one; I like the way that the bold colours of lightsabre / glowstick and hair contrast with the plain clothes. It’s an interesting sculpt in the sense that it’s clearly meant to be from Star Wars, without being (as far as I know) anyone particular from those films.

Thank you. Hasslefree are known for their take off and spin on various characters and this I suspect is very much one from Star Wars.

Great work on the model TIM, not to sure about the joke as I do most of the washing in my house ! Comedians isn’t something I could comment on, as for the film watched it recently, wasn’t overly impressed, and found some major plot holes in the movie.

Glad you like the mini Dave and pleased to read you are a modern man too! As for the movie it could have been done better that’s for sure.

A great mini choice for this week! I like how she is inspired by Star Wars but stands on her own too. The hair style is something I’ve never seen in Star Wars but it looks like it fits in if you know what I mean. My British comedian list would be:
1.) Jimmy Carr
2.) Jon Richardson
3.) Greg Davies
4.) Joe Wilkinson
5.) Ricky Gervais
I know most of those from watching 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown which is miles better than any American game show (which are usually pretty dumbed down in my opinion). This was a fun idea for a top 5!

I am impressed with your list. I wasn’t sure how much UK comedy would be seen in the US but 8 out of 10 Cats is a brilliant.

To be fair, 8 out of 10 Cats isn’t on TV here that I know of and most Americans don’t know what it is. I watch clips of it on Youtube while painting. I tend to like British humor as it is a bit drier which is definitely my preferred style 🙂

Nice paint work mate but I wasn’t overly keen on Libby herself ,but don’t tell that I said that as she looks like she could do real damage to an old guy with that stick!!I cant comment on the Ricky guy as I have never heard of him.

Haha, she’s not a women to mess with Pat so I’ll keep your comment just between us! 🙂

Libby looks great – and I’ll double down on what Ann wrote about the cloak – you definitely pulled that off here very well (yet again!). Her hair reminds me of Leia if her bun exploded into braids (and she was a redhead). As for the laundry, in my house, that’s something (like mowing the lawn) that I’m not allowed to do without specific permission from the wife. Yeah, I’m a lucky man!

Oh yeah, and I like Ricky Gervais too. But the rest of the list would be Stan Laurel and any Monty Python member.

I didn’t go back as far as black and white but you’re right to point out Stan Laurel. I used to work with someone who was related to him many years ago. As for Monty Python, some classic stuff to be had there. 😊

Glad you like her Mark. Like you laundry is something I’m not allowed to do and the last thing I would ever do is upset SWMBO. 😉
