This week sees the return to the Old West era and Knuckleduster Miniatures. It’s been quite a while since I painted a western figure and it was good to delve back into the genre. I can’t recall when I bought my last batch of Knuckleduster figures, it was certainly some time ago, and I have a fair few to get done. I’m not in a rush to do them and the aim is to simply mix them into the to do pile to provide some variety over the weeks to come.
When the Josey Wales figure became available I knew it was one I had to have, not just for me but for my brother too. A great many fans of the genre consider Josey Wales, the film starring Clint Eastwood, to be one of the finest ever made. As a consequence the figure was a must buy and paint and I purchased three of them.
My brother has already taken possession of his figure leaving me with the two shown below. I decided to base one on the same style of base as all the other figures I have done in this range and one on a little oak plinth as I consider it to be “special” figure. Nothing really to say about the paint job itself. All painted in acrylics with a colour scheme as close as possible to the movie character.
Personally the figure not on the plinth is the better of the two.

Both very nicely done, but as you say the non-plinthed one does just have something to top the other.
Cheers Roger.

Thanks Roger. I think the eyes look better on the non plinth one. I think I might go back and adjust them. π

Great work on both TIM, for me it’s the face on the bottom one, that highlights the whole figure

Thanks Dave. The bottom one is definitely better, I think it is due to the eyes. I’ll go back and adjust the plinth one later. π

Excellent work there. I really like him- he has the straight out of a classic film look.
Cheers,

Its great to see you painting some cowboys again and you can’t go wrong with Josey either! π I remember seeing that one when I was young and enjoying it which is something because I didn’t like a lot of Westerns growing up even if I still watched them with my Dad π

I’m a fan of the genre as you know and it was good to make a return and paint a classic piece. π

Excellent! Youβve really brought this mini to life. Cowboys are perhaps not a great genre for gaming but they lend themselves well to paint projects.

Thank you. I’m no gamer and I’ve no idea if the “Gunfighters Ball” game for which these Knuckleduster figures are made is any good but I do love painting them! π

Those are both excellent (I think if I had to pick the lower one would win it for me too but they’re both great). You say your brother received the other one, does he paint models too then?

Thank you. My brother doesn’t paint models but amongst other things he is a huge fan of all things associated with the Western genre and he loves the old West minis I do. Every now and then I’ll paint a classic figure for him and post it off. Josey Wales is one of his favourite films and Clint is one of his favourite actors so the figure was always going to be a winner with him. π

They are both excellent work and you say you painted a third one as well? WOW. They are your usual high standard, and I have to say I like the idea of both plinth and “table” basing, gives you options if you ever decide to game.

Thanks Anthony. One day I might surprise myself and everyone else by playing a game! π

Yes Dave, you should try a game with your toys! It is rewarding. I love the Josey Wales character. One of Clintβs best. I love both of these figures. And with your brother taking some off of your hands you have a storage relief valve (however small) that even SWMBO would appreciate!

Nice work Dave and after repeated views I have to agree that its the face on the plinth less one that wins the day!! ( my wife says I’m sometimes plinthless after a whiskys !!)

Haha, and I’m sure she is right Pat but I have to agree with you over which of the two is better. π
