Another post, another mounted knight. The good news is that with this one done I can begin work on basing them all and with that start to bring this diorama to a finish. As I mentioned in a previous post, the take away from painting these knights is I ought to have staggered painting them. I’m no fan of batch painting and I do like variety in what I do so, in the unlikely event that I do something on this scale again, my approach will be different.
Another relatively plain painted figure but it should nevertheless fit in with the others. Time will tell of course and that time starts this coming week. Until then though some images.

Sounds like a pain in the bum mate, but still, done now & looking fab

Nicely done, Dave, surcoat and heraldry have come out well! 🙂 And in case you think people don’t remember these things, I’ll wish you a Happy Birthday in advance of the event! 🙂

Blimey John, even my kids have no idea when my birthday is so I’m most Impressed and more than a little chuffed you have. Sixty five on Thursday, where have the years gone?

Fantastic looking knight to finish the group Dave, looking forward to seeing them all in place on the diorama.
Thanks to John, Happy Birthday in advance.

The last one is always the toughest so good on you for getting this one done. I reckon the work you have left should be more exciting to work on and it will be a nice feeling getting this massive project done too!

Spot on, exactly how I see it. 🙂

Lovely work once again, Dave. The freehand heraldry is as always the standout to me!

Thanks mate although I think we both enjoy our freehand work and making our minis more unique. 🙂

Another winner – and best of all now you can start to bring the whole piece together. I too am no fan of batch-painting so well done for persevering and getting through it. Oh and thanks to John I’ll wish you an early Happy Birthday too (good time of year to get born this!).

I assume you and August birthday too so happy birthday if it is still to come and hope you had a good one if the date has passed. Yep, very much looking forward to finalising this piece now. Finishing this last knight has given me the boost I needed to get this one over the line. 🤗

Thank you! (Technically I’m not an August baby, I snuck over the line into September, but only just. I do know a lot of people who were born in August though).
Anyway, re the diorama – that’s what I like to hear! I’m very excited to see this one finished (although not – I suspect – as excited as you are!)

Well the good news is you still have a birthday on the horizon so have a good one in due course. Treat yourself to some new figures 😉. As for the diorama, I’ve enjoyed it very much but I am looking forward to getting it finished, taking a break and then deciding just what to do next. 🙂

August is the most awesome month for birthdays, but I might be a bit biased! Happy Birthday to you TIM! Love the rich colors on the knight and the horse. I also like the expression on the knight, looks like he might be smiling a bit.

It seems August is quite a popular month! Have a good one yourself if you haven’t already and glad you like the knight. 🙂

Those Stars on the coat of arms and shield are great. I need to remember those, to stea- I mean get inspiration for my medievals from!
What is your process for the metal-colors actually? Do you do something differently than metal -> shade -> drybrush/highlight? I’d like to know, because it looks good!

Glad you like them. As for painting metal my method is pretty much as you describe. 🙂

Totally!
So it’s the classic! But it isn’t the classic method for nothing, looks really good!
I’m trying to acchieve metal only with shading and highlighting from the brightest metal basically, to get somewhat of a metal-reflection – though I’m not really good at it yet haha
