TIM’s Mid Week Miniature

This week we have another 28mm figure from Giants In Miniature.  A limited edition of 500 this is number 305 of “Quartermain”.

Dusting

She Who Must Be Obeyed has been on a house cleaning drive.  The place isn’t dirty but the kids are both away and she has elected to use the time to “Spring Clean” despite the fact that it is the summer and we are enjoying a heat wave down here in the South West.  It wont last, it never does, this is England after all.

It didn’t bother me that she had elected to go on this crusade until she handed me a duster and told me that my modelling desk and associated area needed cleaning.  Worse than that she had an expectation that the various cased dioramas and figures which I have about the house needed dusting too.  Anything for a quiet life I gave it a go.

So I dusted.  I dusted it all.  It took an age and then, guess what?  A few days later the dust came back.

Fucked if I’m falling for that again.

What’s The Difference?

Have you ever wondered what the difference was between Erotic and Kinky?  Don’t lie, of course you have.

This week TIM has been listening to …

… Slade and “Mama weer All Crazee Now”.  Live version.

Now if anything is likely to give your age away it is listing a track by this 70’s group.  This decade was my teens and as I think back I loved everything about it.  No responsibilities, no accountabilities and a general couldn’t give a fuck attitude.  This track was released in 1972 when I was fourteen.  OK, so we dressed and looked ridiculous but it was fun and for me possibly a time when some of the best music ever was produced.  This track may now be a good example of that but I am in a good mood and when I am like that the music has to be played loud.  Very loud.  Very, very Fucking Loud!  Put your ear to the speaker and enjoy the experience of silence for three days afterwards.

This week TIM has been watching …

… Into The Wild.

Based on a true story about a young man who chooses to live life off the grid and heads off on a journey to Alaska where he finds the Magic Bus.  Sounds weird but it is an interesting but very sad tale.

The film is based on the life of Chris McCandless and if you haven’t seen it then it is, in my opinion, well worth a watch.  I have seen it several times but my son got into it and also put me on to a YouTube documentary which provided a further insight on the life of Chris as told through the lives of his family.  Fascinating stuff.  Check it out.

Sorry mate but not my favourite figure ,I’m not sure but I feel it’s out of proportion ,but that’s just me ,nicely painted though .Chickens ! there are laws about what you can do with them over here so to save embarrassment I wont go into it ! ,I am amazed IRO hasn’t come in on this one ,Uh Oh here he comes ! .
    You should not have mentioned Noddy and Slade mate ,Slade Alive was the first album I bought with my first wage and I still have it ,so on that note mate, Darlin’ be home soon !,because I just about to say Goodbye to Jane .
    No just fuck of you old fool Dave says !.

    1. Well I am going to have to up my game Pat so that you like the next one although to be fare he does look a bit top heavy. Loved Slade and like you bought the album but alas no longer have a copy, my vinyl went years ago and boy do I regret that now! I’m sure we will hear from IRO soon enough.

  5. I really enjoyed into the Wild. Before having kids I had dreams of taking off on my own, possibly with a dog, but, alas, I became a Dad. Which, I might add, turned out to be the greatest adventure of all. Now in my 40th year the plan is to see more of the world. With kids in tow on most jaunts. Love the mini and you really need to get out of my head mate. Just yesterday I was reading about sean Connery and his last movie, in which he played Quartermaine. Weird. Could kinky also include dressing up as a chicken while dusting? I hope so. 👍🏼👍🏼

    1. I think we have all had those dreams at times mate, it is also part of our original DNA, my son is going through that “what’s all about” phase at the moment. As for travel, get out and see as much as you can before even more has been fucked up. That’s certainly my aim for the life I have left. I may have done a lot but still so much more to do. As for being in your head it’s a telepathic thing. I know what you will get up to even bfore you do! 😉

  6. Nice work on Quartermain there, hadn’t come across him before, will have to look him up.

    Always had mixed feeling about Into The Wild, some friends really like it, others (including myself) not so keen. I tried to read the book years ago but only managed about half of it. I think it’s because I spend so much time out in the wilds anyway, either for work or pleasure, and the book felt a lot like a reminder of what would happen to me if it all went wrong. Might give that documentary you’ve linked to a look though.

    If you like that kind of “off the grid” film then North of the Sun is well worth a look. It’s subtitled, the original is in Norwegian; two lads go north of the arctic circle, build a little hut for themselves and spend the winter surfing and make a documentary about it. Really nice, chilled out film, and with a much happier ending than Into The Wild too!

    1. Never read the book although my son has just bought it. He’s going through his first “what’s it all about” phase. Had it not been a true story I wouldn’t have rated the film that much but it touched me that someone could just go off and do something like that. Probably a parent thing perhaps. Then I watched the documentary and learnt that his father was married to two women at the same time and had two seperate families. To add to that he was a wife beater and suddenly you begin to see what a troubled up bringing he had.
      Never heard of North of the Sun but will check it out.

  7. Love the Quartermain mini.. looks really good. My good lady took things one step further and decided to rearrange the bedroom to ensure the drawers weren’t damp down the back… thankfully they weren’t so the epic furniture moving turned into sorting out my clothes…. phew!

  8. Love the Quartermain fig and of course your painting here is so well done, and always a joy to see. I have not seen many movies in the last few years, for a variety of reasons. Not on Netflix and my DVR gathers dust. Speaking of dust, my condolences as my dust allergy ( which did not show up until my 50’s) drives me nuts. I feel your pain. Now you and I are nearly contemporaneous as I was 10 in 72 and vaguely remember Slade over here. The music style is right up my alley. We were huge Stones, Zep, Who, Bowie fans. Still am, but listen to a lot of Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Bob Marley, Who now. Enjoy the post dusting apocalypse!

    2. Cheers Mark. If we were in the same room I would have said you had looked over my shoulder at my music list! Cannot fault a single name on yours. 😊 You do need to dust that DVR though, there are some great movies out there for you to catch up on.

      1. Movies take away from modelling time though! Never mind gaming time! Though you are correct and at least when I walk I can catch up on IRO’s podcast and/or listen to tunes. Your ant story kept me walking another mile!
