TIM’s Mid Week Miniature
My attention is back on the Old West and Knuckleduster miniatures. As my collection so far consists only of male figures it was high time I added a token female to the collection. This little lady goes by the name of Dicey Lee.

New Paints – Experiment No: 2 – Vallejo Crackle Medium
On the face of it Crackle Medium seemed like a good idea so I took the plunge and bought a bottle not quite knowing what I would ever use it for (ideas welcome!). The instructions were clear and simple. Do not shake the bottle as bubbles will form. Paint over a base coat. Allow to dry and then go over with a contrasting colour. Simples. Well yes it was simple but the effect was essentially non existent.
Naturally I had another go but the outcome was no better than the first time around. Wearing my magnifying head visor I could just about see some cracks but nothing was visible to my naked eye. Hence no images to post either.
Mark Morin, picking up on last weeks post commented that he found Vallejo Crackle Medium disappointing but that AK Crackle was much better. I might experiment a bit more, not least of all because I have a bottle of the stuff, but it rather looks like I need a better alternative. Hopefully it’s me but given Mark’s review I think I am being optimistic.
Hopefully I will have greater luck trying out my Citadel textured paints this week.

Has anyone seen IRO?
What with it being Orktober I thought IRO would have been back blogging by now but alas he is either busy working or still setting up his super duper new modelling room in the new house. He did reappear briefly but all has gone quiet once again. Has anyone heard from him? If not I shall drop him an email to see if all is well.

Parenting
As a kid I was always told by my parents never to talk to strangers and never, never get in a car with one. Sage advice which I in turn passed on to my kids. However, due to an ever changing world, it was also incumbent upon me to advise both my kids that they should also never meet people they may get to know on the Internet alone. You just do not know what weirdos are out there.
Now I hear there is a thing called Uber where you get in touch with a complete stranger on the internet who you then meet alone and get in a car with. Every day the world becomes more and more fucking stupid. Either that or I am just getting old.

If like me you ever wondered …

This week TIM has been listening to …
“Rock and Roll” – Led Zeppelin.
Best played loud!
—000—
This week TIM has been watching …
Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
It’s always nice to sit down and watch a modern classic. Stands the test of time as far as I am concerned but was simply mind blowing when first released.

Until next time.

Thanks Pat, glad you like Dicey. Crackle paint is a mystery to me right now but hopefully I will find a use for it one day! As for IRO I think we all need to badger him!

Thanks Alex. I wasn’t sure how to paint them but a black wash over flesh worked out OK.

Great work on Dicey Lee there, she looks like a woman to be reckoned with and the colours really pop, without being garish.
Funnily enough I too was thinking we’d not seen much of IRO lately – do great minds think alike or do fools seldom differ? 😉 I’d emailed him earlier and can confirm that either he’s fine but busy or someone is doing a fine job of impersonating him.

He must be fine then – no-one could impersonate him! Good to know all OK and thanks for the update! 🙂

Definitely a case of great minds! 😉 Good to hear IRO is OK. Will drop him a line myself in the next day or two.

And a nice mini Dave (yet again)! I do like all of the colours in there! Saw Close Encounters when it came out but was never really a big fan I’m afraid! And I think I’m the only person who is never going to find a use for crackle paint!

Thanks John. I might be joining you on crackle paint as so far what I could use it for eludes me too. I will keep my options open for now though just in case I can get it to work and have a light bulb moment there after!

Dicey is mighty nicey! Great job on her, and as Pat said, love the green.
On the IRO front – his podcast (which sometimes goes as long as 90 minutes) must be keeping him busy. He is definitely missed here – but he does respond on Instagram too.
The Vallejo stuff was indeed disappointing. As for the crackle paint, a few suggestions. First, make sure the under-color (where the cracks form) is the color you want, as well of course the color of the crackling paint as well. A MAJOR need is the under-color being varnished smoothly with a GLOSS varnish. Once that is fully dry, apply the AK stuff and let semi dry, then gently use a blow dryer (for hair) and it should crackle nicely. Light dry brushing is helpful as well.
Another option which I like for bases are a few of the Citadel Texture paints, which I also use the blow dryer on for effect: Tan/Light Brown: Agrellan Earth, Agrellan Badland; Rust/Red/Dry dust: Martian Ironearth, Martian Ironcrust. These are good for being able to be washed and dry brushed as desired. https://citadelcolour.com/playlist/6038720983001/6038909793001

Thanks Mark. As for IRO I will drop him a line in a day or two and see how is doing.
Thanks for the crackle paint tips, I will hang on to them and give it all another go in due course. Aiming to try a couple of texture paints this week so I will take on board what you have said as well.

I was going to say either him or Bas(?) update Instagram almost every day.
I love the Boob thing. Will share that with the wife and in laws this evening 😀

Phwoarrr or words to that effect 😍. Dicey looks Nicey to me. Never tried any of the crackle effects stuff at all so cannot pass comment. Funnily enough I was wondering about IRO the other day, thinking I hadn’t seen him about in a while.

Yes she is my kind of girl I must say. The sort that covers your back when you have had a few drinks rather than the one I have that says serves you right if you have a hangover in the morning! 😉
