Welcome to this weeks Miniatures & Musings!
—000—
This weeks miniature is in fact another double act and no prises for guessing they are both Baron’s War figures (are you bored yet?). First up we have a foot Sergeant from the “Foot Sergeants with Hand Weapons Pack 1” followed by a cossbowman from “Crossbowmen Pack 1”. Both nicely composed figures which I’m happy to add the my expanding army. At some point I must do a count up of just how many I’ve now done. Whilst the figure will be encouraging it will still fall well short of even half way. For now though, and with the limited time I have available these days, the figures are filling a need and keeping my painting level up. The summer will come to an end soon enough and then it will be time to mix things up a bit.

One of the things which intreagues me is people’s surnames. My own surname is Green, derived perhaps from a family which once might have resided near the village green. Some surnames recognise trades such as Baker or Butcher while others reflect a family member, for example, Jack’s son giving rise to Jackson. Simple actions and occupations often lead to names which stick and are handed down through the generations. I’m sure you get the idea but some names make me curious. All I’ll say is I’m glad my surname is what it is but what exactly were these people once up to?

This week TIM has been listening to …
“Victim of Love” but Erasure. I seem to have found my self indulging in another decade of late and as such YouTube has throwing some memorable tunes at me of which this is one of my favourites.
—000—
This week TIM has been watching …
“Timeline – The Victoria Cross” – Narrated by Jeremy Clarkson. My brother brought this documentary to my attention and I’m glad he did. If you haven’t seen it then it is well worth a watch to learn about some truly remarkable people. Even though Clarkson is like Marmite to some (I like Marmite) don’t let that put you off, his narration is terrific.

Love the minis!
I’d forgotten about Erasure! My God I’m old!
Jeremy Clarkson ? He does come up up with some brilliant tv-!
Good week mate!

He did one BBC show on the Cambletown raid and it was stunning! Helped by great visuals but he showed real empathy too.
Haven’t seen his farming show yet?

My brother said the farming show is great but I think it is on Amazon Prime which I don’t subscribe to.☹

Thanks Alex. Fair point about a group shot, I really must get around to doing that. 🙂

Seeing the cake and reading your thoughts on names reminded me of a story I was told by a bloke I met a few years ago. He was working as a school teacher and the school had just set up a new email system. Everyone’s email address was the first three letters of their surname followed by the first letter of their first name (odd way round to do it but there you go) followed by “@NameOfSchool.com”. So for instance John Smith would be SmiJ@whatevertheschoolwascalled.com. At the staff meeting when this was announce he stood up and said “My name is Trevor Cunningham and you’re giving me a different email address”.
Anyway… Lovely work on the knight and the crossbowman, you’re still going great guns with this project. 🙂

Great work on both TIM, not bored of seeing your wonderful brushwork at all, keep them coming.
As for the names you should never name your son Will, in every battle throughout history they always shoot at him first ! LOL

I’d just like to get this comment in before IRO, but your surname could be Green because your ancestors were orcs/orks/orkz! Love the post and the minis. My wife once bought a lipstick called PINK FLICKER!

Thanks for that John, coming from a long line of Orcs is so much cooler! I’ve also added Pink Flicker to SWMBO future present list. 🙂

Very nice work on the latest minis. I’m not at all tired of seeing them yet as there is tons of variety to them!
As far as bad but memorable English last names go, how about Snodgrass? I guess that is better than Snoggrass anyway 😉 Hopefully she doesn’t follow my website or yours but I went to school with a woman named Barbie Jo Breedlove. I think that is one of the all-time worst American name combinations that I have come across.

Glad you’re not bored yet. 🙂 As for names just remember to think matters through should the time come when you and your intended think about starting a family! 😉

Bored – you’ve been hitting the wine too much if ya think THAT! Great job and loving the progress.

Thanks Mark. Given my boredom threshold I’m amazing myself that I’m still absorbed by this project. Masses still to paint though.

Great post there mate ! What a laugh you have created! great stuff as I feel we all need one at this point in time. Oh and the sergeant is great ,good realistic pose for a swordsman, I have to say his coat looks a bit like Fi’s old one she likes to wear!

Glad you enjoyed the post Pat, as you say we all need a laugh. Can’t imagine anyone wearing a coat in Australia let alone Fi. I think the girl might need some fashion tips! 😉
