TIM’s Miniatures & Musings (No: 143)

This Weeks Mini Is …

… another mounted Barons War Footsore mounted knight.  Still a few more of these to do but at least this is another one off the to do pile.  Time to paint something else next though I think.

Deep and Meaningful

When you truly don’t care what anyone else thinks of you, you have reached a dangerously awesome level of freedom.

Blogging

The time gap between my posts seems to be getting longer and longer.  I think this is mainly due to the perfect storm which has been brewing over the last few weeks and is likely to remain until the new year.  The football World Cup, getting ready for Christmas, playing golf, trying to get out in the garden and looking after my mum has left very little time for anything else.  Something has to give and so what time I’ve had left has been spent painting rather than blogging.

Gazing into my crystal ball it’s hard to see things changing quickly.  The world Cup will finish of course and Christmas will pass by for another year but other things are on the horizon which will most likely fill the void.  The shorter days don’t help much either and the weather simply adds another obstical too.  Some how I’ve got to look at my time management and see what, if anything, can be better managed.

On the positive front I’m happy modelling and painting.  Maybe I’ll just have to keep my posts shorter? 🤔

And Finally…

When your wife is mowing the lawn, that’s not the best time to ask when will dinner be ready.

Until next time.

  1. Another awesome looking Knight Dave, with very crisp heraldry.
As for the real life eating into time, it has a habit of doing that, but blogging only needs to be done when you want to, and at least you are still enjoying painting and modelling.
On a side not have enjoyed that level of freedom for many years ! LOL

  2. Lovely painting on the Knight mate, real life is an absolute bugger, I’m struggling for time myself at the moment, luckily I couldn’t give a rats bum about the world cup so that’s one less distraction 😉.

Your thought for the day, made me think of one of my own….

What if every country has Ninja’s but we only know about the Japanese ones because they’re rubbish!! 😁

    Cheers Roger.

      1. Ditto on the ninjas! 😂😂 You know though, I think it was back in the 90s,
some political figure in Japan was killed with a sword. I immediately thought “ninja!”, but no one even mentioned it which was weird.

  3. Splendid work on the Knight. I’m especially taken with how well you’ve got your colours butted up alongside one another on the heraldry. I wouldn’t worry about not posting if you’ve nothing to post, I used to do three posts a week and the quality definitely dropped whenever I found myself forcing articles out – a week of resin walls was one such highlight LOL!!! Just paint and post when you can. I find when the mojo hits you’ll suddenly find yourself with lots of interesting figures and things to post about.

    1. Thank you, glad you like the knight. Fortunately I haven’t lost my blogging mojo, although I’m not doing the 2 or 3 posts a week I used to do months ago, but just don’t seem to get the time any more. Frustrating but or now at least that’s life I guess.

  4. Not sure why, but I like this knight most out of all of them! 🙂 The colours and patterns I think! Very nice! Like the jokes – I always refrain from asking my wife tricky questions when she’s got the frying pan close at hand! I find I’m watching the world cup football more than I usually would – it’s not that I’m a football fan it’s more that there’s something on the telly that’ll just have enough happening to keep me from falling asleep in the early evening (I’m sure I’ll watch less once France have knocked England out on Saturday)!

  5. The knight and his heraldry look excellent, Dave. I can certainly empathise with the time crunch. I’ve had the same situation crank itself up over the last two months, and like yourself posting rather than painting was the thing that had to get the chop.
Hope things work themselves out and that if we don’t hear from you again before then do have a wonderful Christmas!

    1. Thanks mate and seasons greeting to you too. Hopefully I’ll get a post in before Christmas🤞and get myself in a better position come the new year. Life as you are all to aware has an annoying habit of getting in the way at times. The good news is it’s not a loss of interest but of time. 🙂

  6. The knight looks great and I can’t wait to see what you turn your hand to next. As far as the World Cup, I’m with John that France is probably going to put England’s hopes to rest but we’ll see. I’ve adopted France as my World Cup team because I loved visiting there and can speak a small amount of French. I also don’t think the US is ever going to be in serious contention, unlike many optimistic (some would say naïve) fans here. I have nothing against England either, they just seem to always break their fans’ hearts is all. I guess in that sense, one team I like will go through regardless in that match! I hope you get some extra hobby time with holidays coming up as well. I think we all could use it.

    1. Glad you like the knight mate. Not entirely sure what will follow next but it’s time for something different I think even though I love doing the knights. As to the football most England fans have become immune to disappointment and the ridiculous media hype which is associated with every tournament we are in. Hopefully it will be a good game and as they say, may the best team win. 🙂 As for the US it seems that that the sport is growing over there but it lags along way behind still when compared to other sports.

      1. Sounds good to me! I do think the game should be a good one and pretty competitive as both teams have some quality players. The US has improved but the Dutch showed us just how far we have to go. I can only hope we’re as competitive as England are now one day!

  7. Love the knight and the colors. I don’t mind if there are a few more coming, it’s been fun getting to see them! As for posting, blogging is one of the things that I tend to drop as things get busy (marked by my absences from the blogging realm!). Work has been freakin nuts lately, so I might be taking another break soon.

  8. I’m with John on the colors on the Knight, your usual excellent work Dave. As for posting, quality beats quantity (unless you’re Guru from Australia who seems to get both down pat). I’m back to painting more but that’s just because winter is nearly here. Otherwise I’d be right with you. Anyways, wishing you and yours the best luck tomorrow (I’m watching the Army Navy game – American football!).

  9. The red, yellow and blue looks great. I also really like the attacking pose of the rider. Tidy work mate. I’m finding the last bit of 2022 quite busy with real world stuff too my friend. I always look forward to your posts mate but do what you need to do. As long as you’re painting that’s the main thing.

  10. Brilliant work on this one Dave, how do you take the gloss look of your figures?
I have told my girls exactly what you have said in the deep and meaningful, its so true but I feel it does take age and effort!

    1. Thanks Pat and to answer your question I think it’s just down to using vallejo paints and matt varnish at the end. As for the deep and meaningful I think we can all be overly sensitive at times but the more I don’t give a shit the better I am at peace with myself. Being old and grumpy helps too of course! 🤣🤣

      1. Ah Matt varnish 😃always the answer 👍🏻. Oh mate now that I’m nearing the old 68 I feel I have perfected the couldn’t give a shit and mastered in the Grumpy field 😅😉
