Welcome to this weeks Miniatures & Musings!
—000—
This weeks miniature is another “Two Handed Weapon Knight” from the Footsore Baron’s War range. The little chap has been painted in the colours and heraldry of Roger Bigod who was one of the Magna Carta Barons in the year 1215.

WordPress Notifications
In case it isn’t just me I thought I would share the following experience.
It took me more than a week to realise that very few emails were arriving in my BT email account advising me of Likes and Comments. In itself it wasn’t a big deal, I just needed to check out the comments directly on the blog instead. It bugged me though so I got in touch with a WordPress Happiness Engineer. It would appear that BT seem to have a very high level of what they consider to be Spam, not that the emails are going into my Spam folder, they aren’t even reaching me in the first place. Why has this just started to happen? Buggered if I know.
My Happiness Engineer suggested I change my email address to Gmail as they have a higher Spam threshold and allow greater control to be employed by the end user. Having made the change it looks as though the email notifications from you guys are now coming through. On the downside, we all knew there had to be one, my Site Icon disappeared and was no longer being shown despite all the various boxes being correctly ticked in my settings. More emails to a another Happiness Engineer has now hopefully resolved that. 🤞

The Knights On TIM’s Modelling Table
This week the cavalry arrived, literally.

In addition to around 100 various foot figures still to do I have now given myself a further 16 mounted figures to paint. Cleaning has been done but not the priming. I also need to give plenty of thoughts to how I intend to paint them in terms of heraldry. Fortunately I am in no rush so will continue to paint the foot figures that I have plans for.

Give Me Five
We’ve all had those moments when we would like to take revenge for an injustice we have been dealt. Alas the thought of criminal proceedings holds us back and we are left trusting in divine intervention striking down the bastards who upset us. On a personal level I had hoped Covid-19 might have proven to be one of Big G’s “mysterious moves” but indications so far aren’t encouraging as my nemesis Mad Martin remains a live . No such problems, however, stand in the way of our silver screen heroes who do our bidding for us. The fact that this film genre was the toughest yet rather tells you just how many films are out there and how much the genre is a box office hit! In no particular order my top five revenge movies (it could have been a top 30!) are:
- Once Upon A Time In The West (1968)
- Gladiator (2000)
- Death Wish (1974)
- Straw Dogs (1971)
- Inglorious Basterds (2008)

This week TIM has been listening to …
“The Beverley Hills Cop” Sound Track album. Not sure what prompted this bit of nostalgia but I did enjoy the music and subsequently the film.

This week TIM has been watching …
“Beverley Hills Cop” starring Eddie Murphy. A blast from the past but just as enjoyable.

I like this guy mate, the red and orange looks great, are you sure its little Johnny or is it little Davey! he seems to be pretty dab with the brush!
bloody hell I know I have been away (had to put in an eight hundred mile round trip to clear out a house my sisters own and have sold) but how did I miss the number of knights you have still to paint !!! wow if that not enough you have taken on mounted ones as well ! I’s lucky you drink so much wine eh!!

Haha, yeah the wine helps Pat. As projects go this one will keep me going for sometime yet. I’m finding it better to look at what I have done so far rather than look at what still needs to be done! I may well have bittten off more than I can chew but when all is said and done there is no rush. 🙂

I’m first to admit mate that a little triple aids ones artistic skills while to much makes you go back over it in the morning!
I’m sure you will get through that great pile goodies with ease mate ,like you said ,there is no rush!

Awesome job mate & I’m very excited to see some mounted knights in the works! How much would I have to bribe you to upgrade one of the horses to a dragon?

Not sure about a dragon on this project but you’ve got my head in a spin for a few things I’ve been thinking about going forward. 🙂

Aw come on mate – just one wee dragon that you can sub in when you’re feeling whimsical… please!! 🤗

Such a smoothie! OK I’ll think on it some more! In all seriousness though you truly have given me an idea for a the big diorama I have planned. 🤗

Another great looking Knight TIM, interesting this one has his colours on his helmet as well !
I don’t think I could pick 5 revenge movies as there are so many good ones, some very deep and thought provoking, and some that are just easy watching. One to watch if you haven’t seen it Law Abiding Citizen.
Some great looking mounted Knights on the table, look forward to seeing what you do with them as the project progresses

Cheers Dave. Not sure if they had different colours on their helmets or not but felt the need for a bit of poetic licence! As for revenge movies there are simply so many. Must be a lot of pissed off people out there! 🙂

Great figure (with a great name too!), and I love that joke! reminded me of a film I saw years ago (of a dubious nature) 😉😉.
As for revenge films, I must have seen loads but can’t think of any at the moment.
Oh… “The Man in the Iron Mask” (Richard Chamberlin)
Cheers Roger.

Thought you might like the name of this one Roger. 🙂 Probably best that we don’t delve further into your sordid past though!

Great work on Roger Bigod there (is he by any chance part of the dynasty of Bigods – a name that appears in more recent historical records as “Begod” or “Begoode” and which finally lead to the famous Jonathon Begoode, a well known country boy from Louisiana?). Looking forward to seeing those mounted knights joining the ranks (although I’m definitely seconding Alex’s suggestion of sneaking a cheeky dragon in there somewhere). And what about peasant levies – will you be adding the downtrodden masses at some stage?

He’s got a “Roger” in there now, so I think he’s got the “downtrodden” covered! 😉

I believe he is mate, in fact rumour has it that Chuck was inspired by the Magna Carta inscription which read “Maybe someday Begoode you wil be a knight” to create the lyric “Maybe someday your name will be in lights, saying “Johnny B. Goode tonight”. Who would have thought it? I am inspired by the dragon idea I must say and I’m forming a plan for a diorama but that’ll be further down the line. As for levies, I’ve got a dozen to do at some point, all relatives of Roger’s l believe. 😉

Looks like you’ve got through quite a bit of wine to get all those corks to mount those knights on! 😉 Nice mini!

Little Johnny is a legend… 🙂
I love the knight. Is the shading along the lower edge of his surcoat a simple wash?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, just a wash, Citadel agrax earthshade.

The knight looks great and it isn’t hard to imagine him charging into the next battle 🙂 Nice to see plenty of knights waiting in the wings too! Revenge movies are kind of a genre all on their own, aren’t they? I’m struggling to think of many recent ones that I enjoyed for some reason but I’d imagine Taken would be on many people’s list.

Very nice work on the figure Dave. A great revenge movie that I’ve just watched is one called Revenge. It stars Matilda Lutz who is quite easy on the eye and it’s really bloody good. I was a bit surprised with just how good it was actually.
