This weeks miniature is the Baron’s War take on Friar Tuck.  I nice little sculpt which will sit alongside Will Scarlet and Little John who I painted a week or so ago.  Tuck is sold as a pair with Robin Hood which surprised me as I would have paired Robin with Maid Marion who is sold as a single figure, not that it matters a great deal.  All being well I’ll get Robin and Marion painted soon.

The Knights On TIM’s Modelling Table

Outside of my WordPress blog I’m not a great one for social media.  The main reason for being anti social on the World Wide Web is mostly an age thing but I’m also aware from what others have posted that various platforms have there pros and cons.  The biggest con being that far to many people are incapable of being kind to one another, the complete opposite of our little WordPress gang.

Nevertheless I recently posted a few images of my knights on Facebook having discovered by chance that there is a Baron’s War group.  On a number of levels it’s not a patch on WordPress blogging but I have to report that so far it has been a pleasant surprise.  Time will tell if I continue to contribute but I must say some of the posts have been very informative and as a further research source it has proven quite useful.

Give Me Five

This week I’ve been pondering unsolved mysteries.  In reality there are hundreds to choose from but if I live long enough I’d like to see these five resolved before I expire.  Not much chance though!  In no particular order:

  1. UFO’s and Alien life forms, do they exist?
  2. Who was Jack the Ripper?
  3. Does the Lochness Monster exist?
  4. Was there a city of Atlantis?
  5. Was George Mallory the first man to climb Mount Everest?

This week TIM has been listening to …

“You can Call Me Al” by Paul Simon.  I remember when the Graceland album came out.  It was very different at the time and was a very popular album and one I played a lot.  I’d forgotten just how good it was.

This week TIM has been watching …

“Kill Bill Volume 1” and “Kill  Bill Volume 2” starring Uma Thurman.  Classic Quentin Tarantino.  Totally over the top but fun.

  2. Nice work on Tuck, he has the same haircut as me! (and a similar body shape too 😒).

    Five mysteries I’d like to see resolved..

    1. How the hell did Boris get elected!
    2. Why is Piers Morgan on TV
    3. Why does my dog insist on getting up at 5.30 on my days off work!
    4. Why does superglue stick to everything but what you want it too.
    5. Why isn’t Scarlett Johansson returning my calls (OK I know the answer to this one 😉)

    1. Tuck was quite a trend setter Roger, to this day his hair style is very much in vogue. I too have taken to sporting something similar! 😉 When I eventually get Scarlett off the bloody phone I’ll get her to call you. 😉

  3. Friar Tuck looks excellent TIM, and should fit in well with the others you’ve already painted.
    Good to hear your experience on Facebook has been good so far, and in my experience there hasn’t been any problems in the Facebook groups as they are well monitored.
    As for the list I’d add find Bigfoot/Yeti, and the biggest question would be why humanity can’t get along ! LOL

    1. Cheers Dave, hopefully he will sit happily along side the others and then make for a nice little group when Robin and Marion are done too. I was a little dubious about Facebook but the group members I’ve encountered so far are both knowledgeable and helpful which is encouraging to say the least. Man being unable to get on with his fellow man is a good shout, probably the biggest mystery of them all!

  4. A great depiction of old Tuck and great painting too… nice to see him with a bow and sword….interesting but useless fact. If Robin Hood is set in the Time of Richard the Lionheart then he couldn’t have been a friar, as they didn’t exist in England at the time… arriving sometime around 1224… as for five mysteries…

    Why do couriers think that Shetland is on the dark side of the moon and will refuse to deliver to here.
    Did Matt Hanckock jump or was he pushed… actually I don’t really care
    Why are people convinced that Megalodon’s are still swimming about.
    Flat Earther’s… I mean why?
    Why can’t I think of five… maybe because others got there first with theirs…
    BTW Roger- When I was talking to Scarlett she said she lost your number, and it wasn’t recognised on her phone.

    1. Thanks Steve and interesting about Friars. I guess that’s the thing with legends, hard to differentiate between fact and fiction. I would.like to.know the answers to your mystery questions as well although to be honest I did think the Shetlands were on the dark side of the moon too. Every day is a learning day! 😉

Nice mini! 🙂 The mysteries I tend to think about are more mundane, along the lines of “wonder what’s for tea” and “why’s there so much month left at the end of the money” and “why’s that damned matt varnish turned white again”! I’ve resolved the varnish issue by reverting to enamel matt varnish, but my other two mysteries remain in need of investigation!

  6. Nice figure. I always called him Triar Fuck haha. In regards to FB stay away from the dark side my friend haha. Nah, if it feels good do it but always remember that your real family is here in WP. My top 5: 1. Is there life out there in the universe other than is? 2. Are ghosts real? 3. Will I ever paint all my minis? 4. Is the imperfect modeller really my Dad. 5. Where are my bloody keys.
    Coincidentally our last fly on the wall Podcast episode was on Jack The Ripper

      1. I think you’d like Fly On The Wall Podcast (all one word). The quality gets better from around episode 20. It’s been going for over two years now. We still play the promo you did for us hehe.

  7. Tuck looks great and is an iconic character so its nice to see him in your Baron’s War collection. I think FB groups are the only thing keeping me on FB. The bigger groups like Warhammer ones can be toxic but smaller groups are usually pretty nice because everybody loves the same thing and is supportive. I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying your time with them too 🙂

  9. Nice little friar mate ,it would be hard to change him from a friar now though,monk Tuck doesn’t have the same kind of ring to it! The George Mallory one is the one I would love to know about as it has fascinated me ever since they found him and Irvine.

  11. Friar Tuck is awesomely painted. The soulful eyes sell the model for me. I do use FB groups for promoting the blog as well as some other websites. I stay away from the darker stuff there. Will have to see your group there.

    1. Thaks Mark. Everything I post on Facebook is published first on the blog and I see it as very much a secondary media option. That said the people who have commented have been nice and offered constructive comment so, along with seeing what others have done or are doing, it’s a very useful source of reference. 🙂
