Welcome to this weeks Miniatures & Musings!
—000—
This weeks miniature is another double bill. This time two Footsore Baron’s War spearmen. I’m making a concentrated effort to stay focused and to at least finish the 20 or so foot figures I still have to do while trying to start work on a few other figures at the same time. I need to clear the decks a little more before I can seriously consider starting a diorama or two otherwise I will simply have to much stuff everywhere. Although the end is in sight for my army’s foot figures there is a very long way to go in respect of the mounted ones. Still it all remains fun and that’s the most important thing.

Footsore
As you may have read in previous posts I was delighted to get a mention, not once but twice, in the Footsore emailed newsletter in respect some of my recently painted figures. Well it turns out I was on a hat trick as Mark Farr gave me a third mention!
“As the nights get darker in the UK we are seeing more Knights at night. Something like that anyway. This particular Knight is painted by David Green over on the Barons’ War Facebook group. With custom heraldry and an excellent blue colour he is definitely a knight ready to fight for what’s right at night.”

Landmark
It seems I recently hit a landmark. According to WordPress my previous post was my 500th. I had very few goals when I decided to start my blog and to be honest I still don’t but it has provided me with a great deal of pleasure. As well as being an audit trail for my own work, which was initially my aim in getting started, it has been a wonderful source of encouragement from those of you have been kind enough to follow me and comment. I thank you all.

Weather
The weather in the UK, and certainly in West Devon where I live, is set to take a turn for the worst. Not entirely unexpected for this time of the year but a clear indication that summer (did we have one?) is over and and a wet and windy autumn is very much on the horizon. This of course is a mixed blessing.
On the one hand the outside jobs that still need doing will be even more of a chore, on the other hand more time spent in doors will provide greater time for modelling. It is therefore time for me to start putting some sort of plan together once I get me head in gear. I’ll let you know what I come up with in due course.

Give Me Five
I thought I would adopt a slightly different approach for this week, and maybe for some weeks to come, and focus on actors and actresses who have appeared in a significant number of films. We all have our favorite actors and actresses and one of mine is Tom Hanks. My top five films of his, in no particular order are:
- Sully (2016)
- Saving Private Ryan (1998)
- Apollo 13 (1995)
- Road To Perdition (2002)
- A League Of Their Own (1992)

This week TIM has been listening to …
“Something Else” by Sid Vicious. Some people are meant to die young and Sid I reckon was one of those. Twenty one is no age to die but at least he left this track behind.
—000—
This week TIM has been watching …
“The Dry” starring Eric Bana. A mystery drama set in Australia which turned out to be a good watch.

Remember …
If you die and get cremated get your ashes put into an hour glass, that way you can still participate in family games night.

Really nice work mate – I love the bright reddy-orange on that one fella!

Thanks Alex. These guys aren’t too special but they make up the numbers. 🙂

Great work on the spearmen TIM, and congratulations on another mention.
Good list of films, would have to include the Da Vinci code films, but don’t know what three I would drop from the list you’ve done.

Thanks Dave and a good shout on the Da Vinci Code.

Nice work on those two lads, I’m guessing the one at the top doesn’t get sent on many stealth missions! 20 infantry sounds well within your abilities (paint them all green and you can join in with the Orctober challenge!). Tom Hanks is a good actor, I saw Castaway (for the first time) the other day, certainly goes to explain what happens to my post… Oh and well done on the footsore mention and the 500 posts. 🙂

Cheers Wudu, I’m getting there slowly and am about to get even slower as a few others things are likely to take my fancy. Sadly not Orcs though. 😉

Brilliant as always. I’m a big fan of that bright red you’ve used on the first one.

Great Sid Vicious song my friend. I love how you do the armour on your figures. The dark weathered metal looks great. Congrats on the 500th mate, it is something to be proud of. A HUGE congrats on getting the shoutout from footsore as well man that’s awesome. My five: 1. Saving Private Ryan. 2. Turner and Hooch. 3. Big. 4. Toy story. 5. Green Mile.

Thanks IRO. The 500 came as a surprise I must say. Turner and Hooch is a film I must sit down and watch again. 🙂

I watched it the other night and had forgotten how cool it is.

A double congrats is in order!. A third shout out surely means Footsore is about to hire you as a spokesman or studio painter or something like that, right? 🙂 500 posts shows you don’t just simply paint well either, I’d say! The two latest spearmen look great. Sometimes simple foot troops can be just as satisfying to see done and that’s the case here. Eric Bana is one of Australia’s finest. Right behind your son, IRO, I figure 😀

Thanks mate. Not sure about being a studio painter, I feel under enough pressure just doing stuff for myself! 🙂

Two more great miniatures Dave, I’m not a massive Tom Hank’s fan myself but I did like “Bachelor Party” when I was young, it’s got David Coverdale of Whitesnakes “ex” in it too (Tawny Kitten), His (I think) first film “Mazes and Monsters” is worth a watch too, I found it hilarious (though it’s not supposed to be I think), it’s about the dangers of playing D&D, and looks like it was funded by some church group ( One that I would imagine would be far more dangerous to be involved with than D&D to be honest!!).
Cheers Roger.

Thanks Roger. Bachelor Party I haven’t watched in an age so I might check that out again along with Mazes and Monsters which I can’t even say I have heard of.

He looks great…the perfect retainer for a wealthy knight.
And I think you have solved the “brains” problem of the universe…and to think if we only communicated this way it would be so peaceful…hehe

Congrats on a worthy 3rd mention. I have to say I’m a big fan of Tom, even if you could argue you know exactly what you’ll get with his more recent films. I’m going to have to put Dragnet into my top 5. I also have a real soft spot for the airport. I pretty much know I’m going to like any movie he’s in.

And I’ll also recommend ‘the castle’. A great Aussie film with Eric Bana in.

Not one I have heard of but will check it out and it to my viewing list. 🙂

Iro will likely know it as it’s a bit of a cult Aussie film

Yes my take on him is much the same. He rarely makes a duff film.

Congratulations on the big 500 there mate, and also a great pair of foot knights once again. I’ve only seen SPR from your Hanks list, though Road to Perdition is one of those films I keep meaning to watch, so I’ll have to bump it up the list..
