Welcome to this weeks Miniatures & Musings!
—000—
This weeks miniature is another Footsore Baron’s War Banner Man. I think I have another three to do so anticipate the others in the weeks to come. As others have said, the banners will add some colour and visual interest to the growing army. I’m keeping the banners simple, perhaps to simple as there is an opportunity to make more of them but in truth I want to move on and trying something more complicated doesn’t float my boat right now. If I ever get the urge to attempt something more elaborate then new banners would be an easy change to make so I’m comfortable with my decision for now.

Give Me Five
Following a request from Roger I thought I’d take a look at sequels which, arguably, out shone the original. I think I might have done this one before but it’s important to keep ones readership happy! In no particular order I came up with these five. Over to you Roger!
- The Godfather – Part 2 (1974)
- Terminator 2 – Judgement Day (1991)
- The Dark Knight (2008)
- Aliens (1986)
- Spider-Man 2 (2004)

This week TIM has been listening to …
“Missionary Man” by the Eurythmics. I like Annie Lennox, she’s a cool lady in my book and together with Dave Stewart they made some great music. I could have gone with plenty of tracks but this one doesn’t get played perhaps as often as it should.

This week TIM has been watching …
“The North Water” on BBC iPlayer. A five part drama series about Whalers which I thought was promising based on the synopsis. The story line itself was fine but personally I feel the five hours could have been compressed quite comfortably into two.

Nice banner and mini mate. Has he got chain mail over his face? Question, are you saying sequels that are better than the original or just good sequels? I’ll go with the latter. 1. Aliens. 2. Evil Dead 2. 3. Mad Max “Roadwarrior”. 4. Halloween 2. 5. Batman Returns

I think it is just the way it’s been sculpted but it does look like chain mail. As to the movies, either work and that’s a nice list. 🙂

Nice bannerman. I cheat and use LBM banners. My skills are lacking in the banner area.

Thank you. Nothing wrong with using LBM banners. As much as I do my own they are very simple by comparison.

Thank you. I was planning to do one a couple of weeks or so after Telford when I hope I will have all the foot figures done. 🤞

Another excellent bannerman! The joke in the middle reminds me of a cartoon my dad used to have on the wall by his desk. In that one the doctor is telling the patient “Good news, we managed to save your testicles”. The patient replies “Oh thank God for that!” to which the doctor says “Here you go, they’re in this jar!”

Haha, I think I like that version better. 🙂

Nice work on the knight! 🙂 Don’t always agree with your music, Dave, but can’t fault you this time – best played loud!

Thanks John. Louder the better! 🙂

The ultimate sequel that is better than the original is surely The Empire Strikes Back? Also Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. Godfather Pt II I agree on though the original Alien and Terminator were the best IMO 🙂 I don’t like superheroes so I can’t comment on the others. Other inclusions would (maybe) be some of the Bond sequels are arguably better than Dr No (From Russia with Love, or Skyfall).
Good mini too btw 🙂

I can’t comment on Star Wars or Star Trek movies as – hold your breath – I’ve never seen any of them. I never got into Start Wars at all but keep promising myself that one day I’ll sit down and try once again. What can I say, either an age thing or I’m a heathen!
The Bond films and things like Mission Impossible often better themselves with each film because of the special effects but I left them out because they are more of a franchise, a subject I might go with another time. 🙂

haha fair enough I loved Star Wars as a kid but it’s all become a bit cringey these days and I never even bothered to watch the last one due to giving up on the franchise by then. My dad has always been a big Trekkie and I don’t mind watching it once in a while.

I think some of it is an age thing. I was brought up on cowboys and Indians and was at work when Star Wars hit the cinemas and my interests were simply elsewhere. I’ve little doubt the films are good, so many people can’t be wrong, and one day I will binge watch the lot and wonder why I didn’t do it years earlier! Such is life. 🙂

Lovely work on the figure, sorry if i came across as unimpressed last time, the precision on that cross is fantastic!
OK I suppose I’d better list five films then as I’m getting the blame (as usual) 😁
1, Aliens
2. Mad Max 2 (the road warrior)
3. Predator 2 (controversial but I do like it better than the first)
4. The Empire Strike’s Back (Mate! you need to watch these!!)
5. Guardian’s of the Galaxy (vol 2)
Cheers Roger.

Thanks Roger. Makes a change to see someone get the blame other than me! 😉 I must make a point of watching Guardian’s of the Galaxy. 🙂

The bannerman looks great and I really like the first two you’ve done. I think they’ll look great in your army so I’ll be looking forward to another group shot when you have time and enough painted up 🙂

Thank you. A group shot will definitely be on the cards when I have more done. 🙂

Lovely! I’m very fond of the sculpt, but you did it really well Dave. Is he supposed to be a Knight Hospitaler?

Thank you. Yes but he is only loosely based on one. 🙂
