Welcome to this weeks Miniatures and Musings!

TIM’s Mid Week Miniature
This week we have two figures for the price of one! Both 28mm figures are by Crooked Dice and are hopefully recognisable as Marty McFly and Doc Brown from Back to the Future.
Both nice figures to paint. Tried my best to get the pattern right on the skate board and added a bit of freehand to Doc in the form of the radiation signage on his back.

The End Of An Era
The other day I found myself conducting a modelling related google search. Nothing unusual in that, it’s something I do often but on this occasion one of the suggested links was to a Military Modelling article and I chose to click on the link and explore further. In next to no time I lost myself following lines of inquiry which had nothing to do with what I initially started out to investigate. One link led to another until by chance I stumbled upon an old article which announced that Military Modelling Magazine was no more, it was now online only.
In this ever changing world this change in media format made perfect sense but I couldn’t help but reflect on a time gone by. Military Modelling Magazine was the single biggest influence on my modelling journey so I found it sad that the magazine was no longer. That said I stopped buying it many years ago so I guess in the scheme of things I played my part in its demise.
One of life’s realities is you cannot stand in the way of progress and change, however, the older I get the more I find myself reflecting on a time gone by and wishing that I could.
Ah, nostalgia, it ain’t what it used to be!

New Year Resolution Update
As we have nearly reached the half way mark for the year I thought I would undertake an assessment of my 2019 goals.
So far the models from 2018 which I should have done in 2017 after I started them in 2016 having bought the figures in 2015 for the ideas I had in 2014 are still sitting there.
Still, six months to go before year end!

This week TIM has been listening to …
… Hotel California by the Eagles. With the weather shit in the UK, or at least down in the south west, I needed the warmth of some Arizona and Califonia sunshine. Where better to look than this album?

This week TIM has been watching …
… Walk The Line. A Johnny Cash bio pic starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. A great film with an excellent sound track.

Until next time.

Nicely done on those BTTF minis mate – instantly recognisable! Might sound geeky, but I really like how you did Marty’s denim – it’s brilliant!

Cheers mate, glad you like them. The denim seems to come out OK thanks to using an oil paint wash on top of acrylic.

Greate song, Great Movie, I am a fan of both. I only got into Cash shortly after my dad passed away, it wasn’t long after that that I discovered that he covered Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, a band I was listening too on a daily basis as it fit and fed my depression in equal parts.

It would awesome, all weathered up. Perhaps a scenic base with a pair of sabots that Marty and the Doc can be dropped into… 🙂

Azazel is onto something! That would be an awesome diorama – I bet you would come up with an excellent one. Love the figs and the painting.

Yes it was a good idea Mark and I’ve added to the list of things I need to look into.

Heh mate ,sorry I’m late but my old uncle passed away ,he went into hospital after a fall and was just about to come home and he caught pneumonia and that was it ,so sad as we were looking forward to celebrating his 102 birthday ,a bit of a shock as he was in top condition .
Anyway I’m back in Melbourne now and catching up ,I’m sorry I don’t know who Marty and Doc are but again you have done a great paint job on the figures ,the only thing is in the last photo of the young Marty figure is a vertical line running down the side of his jeans ,up his jacket and seems to go across his hair .I only ask as there is a bit of chatter about flash and it removal,I’m going to talk a bit about in my next post so I’m wondering if it’s flash ,mould seam or just something to do with the photography .

Sorry to read about your uncle but when you reach such an incredible age it is sad rather than tragic. I hope he enjoyed his life.
Cannot believe you aren’t familiar with the Back to The Future Film Series, I’m sorry to say it Pat but you are showing your age!
Your observation on Marty is spot on. In reality the two halves of the figure have gone together a little out of line. Smoothing it out was easy enough but realigning was never a realistic option, certainly not on the head. At some point I will paint another and try to sell this one on eBay. Some you win and some you lose! Will look forward to hearing what you have to say on flash etc.
